What positive experiences have you had at St. Mary’s School of Nursing?
My experiences at St. Mary’s School of Nursing (SMSON) have been nothing but positive. There are many long nights of studying; however, the friends I have made in the program, as well as the instructors here, have made everything worthwhile. The instructors have especially helped me significantly with understanding the material. They have made sure to encourage me and push me to be the best nurse I can be after graduation.
What would you tell potential supporters about the school?
SMSON as a whole has such a deep history and connection to the surrounding community. The School of Nursing was founded in 1926 by the Catholic Pallottine Sisters and is the oldest registered nursing (RN) program in West Virginia. St. Mary’s has become a household name to many residents of the Tri-State Area, so to be a part of the program is an honor in itself.
What are your post-graduation plans? How do you like helping people?
As of now, I’m hoping to graduate from SMSON in August. I’m not sure of what department I will be joining, but I plan on working at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Becoming an RN means a lot to me. Growing up with a single father, and an older brother who had cystic fibrosis, I had a firsthand experience with nurses who made an impact on not only the patient, but their family as well. I saw those nurses care for my brother on his worst days and his best days, and show compassion and support for my family during our difficult times. Those nurses left a lasting impact and instilled in me the kind of nurse that I want to be. Namely, one who helps people with compassion, honesty, and empathy.
