St. Mary’s School of Nursing – Student Sarah Warnock

Be a nursing student

What positive experiences have you had at the School of Nursing?

The School of Nursing allowed me the opportunity to receive hands-on experience with patients early in my education. The instructors do a great job of giving us the opportunity to care for patients from all walks of life. They also allow us to see how many members of the healthcare team—such as centralized stores and charge nurses—work to improve patient care. Opportunities such as these emphasize the importance of collaboration in patient care, whether that is with classmates, healthcare workers, or the patients themselves. Our instructors come from a variety of different fields and experiences as well, which provides us with a lot of interesting perspectives.

What would you tell potential supporters about the value of the school?

One of the great benefits of the School of Nursing is the value that the instructors place on mentoring their students. The kindness and compassion they show us is far above and beyond that which I have received elsewhere. They invest not only in us as students, but as people. They have celebrated our successes and been a source of support for us in our difficulties. They are the type of nurses—and people—that we all want to become.

What are your post-graduation plans? How do you like helping people?

After graduation I want to work in an emergency setting, with the intention of eventually becoming a flight nurse.
